SadhanaAI ("we", "us", "the app") helps musicians across Carnatic, Hindustani and Western classical traditions — voice, instruments and percussion — analyze and practice their music, learn with teachers in classes, plan concerts/bhajans, and stay connected with their circle. This policy explains what data the app collects, why, and your choices. We aim to collect as little as possible, and we do not sell your data, show ads, or track you across other apps or websites.
The app requires a free account (passwordless sign-in by one-time code). Your practice history, notations, classes and circles sync to that account so they follow you across devices. Many practice tools — tuner, metronome, tanpura/shruti box, ear training, sight reading, and pitch analysis — run entirely on your device.
| Data | When / why |
|---|---|
| Name | If you sign in and provide it, to personalize your account and how you appear to people in your Circles. |
| Email address | For passwordless sign-in (a one-time code is emailed to you) and account management. |
| Phone number | For passwordless sign-in (a one-time code is sent by SMS) and account management. |
| Account / user ID | Created when you sign in, to associate your data with your account. |
| Voice, sound & video recordings | Audio you record or upload, used for analysis and practice; audio/video you attach to class assignments or submissions; and — only if you choose to share it — recordings and voice memos you send in a Circle. |
| Messages | Text you send in group chat or a one-to-one direct message, so the people in that conversation can see it. |
| Contacts | Only when you choose to invite someone: the phone number you pick is attached to that invite, and we check it against registered accounts so the invitation can be delivered inside their app instead of by link. We do not upload your address book. |
| Purchases | If you subscribe to Sadhana Pro, Apple or Google process the payment; we never see your card details. We receive and store your subscription status (plan, store, expiry) to unlock Pro features on your account. |
| App activity | Coarse, non-identifying usage events (e.g. which features are opened, and the platform: iOS/Android/web) to understand what's useful and improve the app. |
| Other content you create | Feedback you send us, and content you save such as concert plans, song lists and saved lyrics/links. |
Some content is stored only on your device (in local app storage) and is never uploaded to our servers: handwriting notes, and private voice/typed notes you attach to your practice history. This data is removed if you uninstall the app or clear its data.
Raga, shruti, swara and pitch-comparison analysis run on your device. That audio is not sent to any third-party AI service.
Deep raga detection runs on our own servers. When you analyze a song, the audio may also be processed by SadhanaAI's own raga-detection engine, hosted on our infrastructure, to provide a more accurate identification. This is first-party processing — the audio is used only to compute the result, is not shared with any third party, and is not retained after the analysis.
Notation generation. When you generate an editable notation, vocal notation is transcribed on your device. For some instruments (for example percussion), the recording you chose is processed by SadhanaAI's own notation engine, hosted on our infrastructure, to produce the notation draft. This is first-party processing — the audio is used only to compute the notation, is not shared with any third party, and is not retained after the draft is produced. The notation you save (and any corrections you make) is stored with your account and is private unless you choose to share it.
Raga-correction feedback (opt-in). If a raga identification looks wrong, you can send a correction. The correction itself (predicted vs. correct raga) is stored with your account. Separately, you may choose to share the analyzed recording to help train our raga engine — this is off by default, clearly labelled at the moment of sending, stored on our infrastructure only, used solely for improving raga detection, never shared with third parties, and deleted on request (email us, or delete your account which removes your feedback rows).
Lyrics detection (speech-to-text) uses a third-party AI service. When you use "Detect lyrics" (or "Get lyrics"), the audio of the recording you chose — and nothing else: no name, contact details or account information — is sent securely through our service backend to the OpenAI API, which returns the text. The app asks for your permission in-app before any audio is sent, and you can change that choice anytime in Profile → Privacy. OpenAI processes this audio only to provide the result on our behalf and, per the OpenAI API terms, does not use API data to train its models, offering protections equivalent to this policy. We don't retain copies of the audio beyond what's needed to deliver the feature and (if you saved it) your own history.
Content you choose to post in a Circle (chat messages, shared recordings, concert plans shared with that Circle) is visible to the members of that Circle. Otherwise, we share your personal data only with the service providers that operate the app on our behalf, who may process it only to provide their function:
All data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS). We may also disclose information if required by law.
In a class, assignments you submit (audio/video, notes and on-device practice scores) are visible to you and the class teacher (admin) by default. You can optionally choose to share a submission with the whole class at the moment you submit. Teachers see aggregate progress for their class. Assignment auto-scoring (pitch similarity against the teacher's reference) runs on your device.
Circles include tools to report content and block other users, and shared content may be reviewed by an automated moderation step so we can act on reports and keep the community safe.
Signing in (free) is required to use the app; sharing features (recordings, contacts, messages) and lyrics detection are optional. You can delete your account and associated data at any time from within the app: Profile → Delete account. This permanently removes your account and the data linked to it. You can also email us to request deletion (see Contact). On-device-only data is removed by deleting the app or clearing its data.
SadhanaAI is intended for a general audience aged 13 and over. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
We may update this policy; we will revise the "Last updated" date above when we do.
