Exercises
Ear training and sight reading
Two exercise surfaces that do not need a reference recording or a teacher present. Both generate fresh material rather than walking a fixed list, so you cannot memorise your way through them.
Ear training
Interval and swara recognition. You hear a reference and then notes to identify, and you name them. Difficulty levels change how many notes are in play at once, with the harder levels asking you to name several in order rather than one in isolation.
The exercises are randomised and unlimited — there is no fixed bank you will exhaust. In traditions where Sa is the reference rather than a fixed concert pitch, the tones are voiced to suit that, so the drill matches how you actually think about the interval.
How to get value from it
- Short and daily beats long and occasional. Five minutes is a reasonable dose.
- Stay at a level until you are comfortable rather than bored. Moving up early trains guessing.
- If you consistently miss one interval, that is the finding. Take it to the tuner and drone and sing it against the reference.
Sight reading
Reading practice presented in your own notation system — sargam for Indian classical personas, staff for Western — at levels that build up. You read, you sing, and the app scores how close what you sang was to what was written.
How these differ from the analysis features
| Ear training / sight reading | Recorded-take analysis | |
|---|---|---|
| You supply | Nothing — material is generated | A recording, and usually a reference |
| Measures | Whether you identified or produced the right note | Where a performance drifted from a reference |
| Good for | Building the underlying skill | Fixing a specific piece you are working on |
What this is not
These are drills, not a curriculum. There is no graded syllabus in the app that takes you from sarali varisai through alankaram to varnam, and no repertoire course. If you want a progression, that still comes from a teacher — the app supplies the daily reps and the measurement.
